About twenty people gathered last night in the HUB to watch 350.org's Do The Math movie. The 42-minute documentary presents the "terrifying" math that adds up to inescapable climate change (We'll exceed and 2-degrees celsius rise in earth's temperature if we burn 565 more gigatons of carbon. Fossil fuel companies have 2795 more gigatons in their reserves and plan to extract and burn it...) Bill McKibben also presents the case for and call to a fossil fuel divestment movement.
After the screening, there was conversation about the film, about divestment, and about the divestment movement at Pingree. Pingree alums Jimmy O'Hare and Matt Colbert (both Pingree '12) skyped in from Pitzer College, where both were active in the recently successful divestment initiative there.
The next movie is Bidder 70, which we'll air at 5:00 in the HUB on Thursday, April 24. Come join us!
